The Department of Economics and Management (DEM)
The Department of Economics and Management (DEM) of the University of
Padua is one of the leading research institutions in Italy in the fields of
economics and management. The latest national research assessment (2014-2016)
ranked the University of Padua first in terms of scientific productivity across
several areas including economics, business and statistics. Since more than a
decade, the DEM offers an international Ph.D. programme with a long tradition
of quality and success as shown by the excellent placement of former PhDs in
top Universities or research Institutions worldwide.
The DEM is a centre of excellence in the research areas of applied
economics, economic theory, corporate governance, supply chain management,
financial accounting and innovation & entrepreneurship. The DEM strives to
conjugate an innovative research environment alongside with a long-standing
tradition at one of the oldest higher education institutions, the University of
Padua. The DEM offers a stimulating learning and research environment to
students from around the world.
Brief summary of the PhD Programme
The PhD programme consists of two main parts: a rigorous coursework in
the first year and a focused work towards the completion of the PhD thesis in
the following two years. The PhD programme features two distinct curricula: one
in Economics and the other one in Management. The first year is structured into
three terms: students of the two curricula are expected to attend courses
covering all major topics in economics and management, respectively. In their
second and third years students are provided with additional funds in order to
spend a period abroad in a qualified and selected international university.

PhD Scholarships at the Department of Economics and Management,
University of Padua
The Department of Economics and Management (DEM) of the University of
Padua invites excellent prospective students to apply to its PhD Programme in
Economics and Management (three-year, full-time programme).

Up to eight grants (4 in Economics and 4 in Management)
will be offered to the most promising applicants. The application period for
the next academic year 2017/2018 will be opened on May 19th, 2017 and will end
in June 21st, 2017.
PRE-APPLICATION:
The programme is open to students from all countries, provided they hold
a Master degree or equivalent in economics, business sciences, statistics,
mathematics or engineering. Students who are going to graduate until December
2017 may apply, too.
Interested candidates are invited, to submit at any time their
expression of interest, containing:
• curriculum vitae
• a research proposal with a clear identification of the area and topics
of interest (max 4 pages)
• two reference letters
to the School Secretariat (Mrs. Paola Zanin, sdem@unipd.it)
specifying whether they wish to apply to economics or management curriculum.
Short-listed candidates will be asked to submit their full application
through the electronic procedure of the University of Padua. The application
package consists of proofs of the degree certificates and all official
transcripts in addition to the previously submitted cv, research proposal and
reference letters.
