Mehdi Elharti is a former student of the master has read his thesis recently, it is a pleasure for us to announce this achievement. The director of Mehdi Elharti's thesis "Fundamental Obstacles to Modernization in Precolonial Morocco: Institutions and Culture" was Leonardo Caruana de las Cagigas for the 2016/2017 academic year and who had an outstanding qualification, deeply congratulates Mehdi for fulfilling his Goal just like all members of the faculty.

Born and raised in Casablanca, Mehdi immigrated to the United States in 1996 after completing his second year at the agricultural school in Morocco. He returned to college in 1998 to earn a bachelor's degree in economics, a subject he liked to read. After graduating from California State University Chico, Mehdi was accepted at California Polytechnic University Pomona to earn a master's degree in economics with an emphasis on natural resource management. His master's thesis was on rural development and forest management in southwestern Morocco.

Mehdi returned to his native Morocco shortly after completing his postgraduate studies and held various positions in the private and public sectors involving economic and statistical analysis.
 In 2012, Mehdi joined the PhD program in economics and business studies at the University of Granada and embarked on the writing of a dissertation under the supervision of Professor Leonardo Caruana de las Cagigas. His work entitled "Fundamental Obstacles to Modernization in Precolonial Morocco: Geography, Institutions and Culture" attempts to study the interaction between geographic, institutional and cultural factors that led to the country's secular sclerosis. Mehdi successfully defended his dissertation on June 12, 2017 and unanimously received the distinction Outstanding Cum Laude for his work.
